Last year, I attended the 11th EFMC Young Medicinal Chemist’s Symposium (EFMC-YMCS 2024), held in Rome in early September. The two-day event brought together early career researchers to share their research in the field of medicinal chemistry. The symposium featured a series of engaging talks including keynote lectures by renowned experts, oral presentations, and interactive flash talks. The event also hosted a Q&A with industry professionals and academics. I had the opportunity to present my PhD project during the poster session. This platform allowed me to showcase my research and have insightful discussions with other participants. Overall, I enjoyed this experience, and I left this symposium feeling inspired and motivated to further develop my research. Attending this symposium would not have been possible without the support of the Conference Support award (now the Research and Innovation Conference Fund).

I would highly recommend doctoral students to consider submitting abstracts to international and national conferences and symposiums to showcase their work. Since presenting my work, I have incorporated some of the feedback I received from both academics and industry professionals.
